The following is from Ali Baas, the science teacher at Dubois High School (DHS) who’s classes are studying Pete’s Pond in Dubois, WY.
“This digital poster is showing producers and phyto and zooplankton (microorganisms) results. The students did a good job, and have some decent baseline data. I additionally have a paper poster to give you with awesome pie graphs on all species identified.”
Additionally, Ali writes the following:
“This was definitely a learning curve for students and myself in the time intensiveness for a complete species profile of the pond, including the difficulties in identification to species level. In this baseline information many of the organisms are not Identified to the species, yet in larger family or genus groups. But I think this gives us a great starting point and allows me to consider how to lead a student inquiry on Pete’s more effectively in the future.
I am working on a spring collection and think I am going to look for a grant that would get us some waders, more ID books, and mesh leaf bags for macro collections.
Thanks for letting us continue to work on this project.”
