Matthew holds his DAWGS Award at the WATA Show – April 2022
Years ago, DAWGS Member and professional taxidermist Lynn Stewart asked DAWGS for a special award for “Best Freshwater Species.”
“I chose the award for the show as to my opinion of the best mount.”

Chatting with Lynn, Matthew Mock said:
“Thank you…I live in Ronan and grew up in the Hot Springs Plains area. The fish came from the Lil Thompson River outside of Thompson Falls in NW Montana. Thankful to have it recognized by someone who appreciates the effort put into it.”
DAWGS received this footage from Eleanor Goodman Gipson. Bighorn Sheep having a difficult time with the fencing. THIS HAS BEEN FIXED.
UPDATE! We are pleased to announce that these fences have been removed!
“I have worked on getting the permits and permission to take the fences down at the Pond area for about 6 mo. The neighbor took a video of bighorn sheep getting bottle-necked. The G & F signed off and wrote me a letter of support.”

September 2021 – Fence Removal Project in Dubois, Wyoming
The Fence on the North side belonged to another land owner so we talked with them as well.
Dubois Anglers and Wildlife Group hired O’Neal Fencing to work on and complete this project.
A nice improvement. Bighorn Sheep and Wildlife will be able to move more freely now that the fence is down.

Did you know the New Zealand Mud Snail has been found in several locations in Wyoming?
The New Zealand Mud Snail Is Tiny
“The Wyoming Game and Fish Department recently confirmed the discovery of New Zealand mudsnails in the North Platte River near Casper and the Salt River south of Alpine in the Star Valley, according to a news release. This is the first finding on the North Platte River.” From MyCountry955
Of Wyoming’s 5 Most UNWANTED Aquatic Invasive Species, the NZMS is Number 2 on the List
Coming in at Number 2 of 5 in the Top 5 Invasive Species List on WGFD Website is the The New Zealand Mud Snail.
What IS (AIS), anyway?
“Aquatic invasive species (AIS) are organisms that are not native and cause significant harm to an ecosystem when introduced. Harmful impacts can occur to municipal water supplies, recreation, agriculture, aquaculture, and other commercial activities.”
How Can We Prevent The Spread of (AIS)?
If you are using New Zealand mudsnail infested waters please remember to:
DRAIN all water from your gear and equipment. This includes all types of watercraft, waders, boots, clothing, buckets – anything that comes into contact with the water. CLEAN all equipment and gear of plants, mud and debris. Never move a plant or animal from one location to another. DRY everything thoroughly. In Wyoming we recommend drying for 5 days in the summer, 18 days in the spring or fall, or 3 days at freezing temperatures.
An (AIS) MAP has been created and additional information can be found there. Thank you for helping to prevent the spread of the species.

Like “a fish finder on steroids” – this device helps the operator get going on Pete’s Pond
Just too excited not to pass these photos along!!
The screen shot is inside the cab of the excavator. The operator can see on his screen exactly where the bucket is in relation to the pond contour elevation design. So nobody has to hold a stick and say you need to go down another foot.
The thing is so precise that it reads the teeth location on both sides of the bucket.
Stretching back to around 2005, the Wind River DAWGS Trophy Board is a series of anglers images and pictures of beautiful trout caught in the Dubois Wyoming area.
Most of these come from the Wind River and near-by Mountain Lakes.

The Latest News For Handicap Fishing Access In Wyoming
Wyoming Game and Fish Video Shows Our Friend Ashley at the Public Access Sawmill Site for Disabled Anglers
This project, started by DAWGS in 2007, features seven public handicap ramps along the Wind River.
“Access for disabled anglers is usually limited to platforms next to public ponds where anglers can’t really get into the action. A public access area near Dubois, Wyoming is changing the game” – Wyoming Game and Fish

The Original Sawmill Site For Handicap Fishing Access Phases and Plans
The DAWGS Sawmill Habitat Management Project was a huge success
Here is how the DAWGS Sawmill Habitat and Handicapped Access worked in 4 Phases
The Sawmill Habitat project has a very long history. It was proposed back in 2004 and went on until 2010 where DAWGS completed the project with the Handicapped Access points and walkway.
Phase One of the Sawmill Site Project was completed upstream of the bridge (present site of the third handicap access platform) in efforts to improve fish habitat. Two structures were installed in the river – a weir and a J-hook. DAWGS also removed a considerable amount of rubbish from this stretch of the river including vehicles, old pipe, and a massive amount of concrete.
Phase Two consisted of another weir installed above the bridge for improved fish habitat and the channels under the bridge retrenched to improve irrigation. Both phases one and two were solely funded by DAWGS.
Phase Three brought in both the pathway and the three handicap access platforms to the Sawmill Site. The pathway stretches 1,200ft upstream of the bridge and the platforms access the improved habitat created in the earlier phases of the project. This major phase of the project was funded with the assistance of Wyoming Game and Fish and Dubois Volunteer, Inc.(DVI).
Phase Four occurred downstream of the bridge. Channels were deepened and point bars installed to improve the fish habitat to the downstream section of the site.
Future Sawmill Site Projects: DAWGS is hoping to continue pathway development and handicap access sites to the downstream section of the river. DAWGS is currently seeking additional funding to assist with the project. A grant application has been submitted to Wyoming Game and Fish and DVI is willing to allocate funding for this future project.
